Last day!

Woohoo!!

It's the last day! We are winding down, waiting for the last couple of feeds before its time to breakdown!! It doesn't look like its going to be as late an evening as once feared, so teardown should be easier(having some daylight helps IMMENSELY!). I am including a pic of the US military that was on the rooftop next to us yesterday, I didn't want to post it until they were gone for the remote fear of getting in trouble heraldo style! :)

Tomorrow I fly back by way of San Juan and Miami, getting home around 5:30 or so! (barring any problems! Keep your fingers crossed!!)

Thanks for tuning in!

The Magic

Well sorry it is a day late, but here's the synopsis!!

It was pretty slow on Thursday morning, just ironing out the last of the details. We finally bean making TV at about 2 pm. All of the traveling press swarmed this room in about 5 mins, turning it from a quiet workplace to a beehive of activity.

It has been interesting for me because its the first time I have split my encoders from my amps, pushing 70mHz about 200 feet. Scotty helped me access, raising the amp gain per instruction over a PL panel. Once up we had a few issues, mostly solved by repeaking the dish about an iota...resulting in only needing 40 watts instead of 135!

The funny part of my day came later when I went upstairs to routinely check my amp temps and was met by two unhappy members of the Trinidad military! Im glad I wasn't shot because I apparently startled them pretty bad. I had a short inquest, then an armed escort to the dish to prove who I was and why I had to be there, etc. They seemed to be on a little higher alert than normal because the Canadian Prime Minister was here in our workroom doing a talkback for ABC.

The day wound down for me, ending around 7pm for an easy 8hr day. It is now 5:40am, I started at 5am which is the beginning of my 12hr shift rotation. If you see me on FB, Skype, or Gmail feel free to hit me up!!

Trinidad

Hello All!! (all 2 of you, or thereabouts)

I am in Trinidad for 5 days, working for CNN covering the 5th summit of the Americas. I have never been here before, so that was one of the firsts for me on this trip!

Another first was a plane with two aisles!! How fun!! On the downside of firsts, my flight down was delayed, we had to sit on the plane for an hour while they replaced he radar in the nosecone...BOO!!

Once here, I was shown the daunting task we had to tackle...lugging all of our equipment up a tiny flight of stairs, through a storage room, onto the roof, around the building, over air conditioners...you get the point! I will try to upload the video of this trip to youtube, then link it here!

After a bunch of work with scotty (coworker) we finally got it setup, found the bird, and completed a test. Now for the fun stuff tomorrow!!! I hope to give at least a little blurb every day!

Later!!
